KIN Children

The KIN children returned to school in September for the 3rd term of the school year. During this term a number of children will take exams which will determine the secondary school they can attend. Extra tuition is being provided and the KIN team are in the process of finding suitable schools. Vocational training programmes are also being considered for those children who are nearly 18. Over 160 children have now received assistance through the KIN Guardianship & Education Support Schemes. There are many more who would benefit from support and it remains a priority for KIN to continue to expand and improve these programmes.

KIN Microfinance Development Scheme

In excess of 90 small businesses have now received loans through the KIN Microfinance Development Scheme. Some loans have already been repaid and second loans issued. The KIN team provide training and mentoring assisting those who have no knowledge of business. This is labour intensive work but vital if people are to be given a chance of self sufficency. It means that Kibera residents like Rose (pictured) are able to support their families and have a chance to expand their business and even take on extra helpers.

KIN Family Centre       British Military Fitness Kinabalu Challenge
We have struggled to identify a suitable piece of land for the KIN Family Centre which is at an affordable price and which does not carry undue risk in the purchase process. For the time being a decision has been taken to put the purchase on hold so that the KIN team can devote their time fully to improving and expanding the various projects which are already in place - the Feeding Programme, Guardianship, Education Support and Microfinance. It remains an objective to establish a KIN Family Centre in the long term.

On 28/11/2009 Tamatha Calow & Richard Ruffell will be completing a British Miltary Fitness Challenge in Borneo in aid of KIN. This arduous event involves hiking, biking, rafting and climbing Mount Kinabalu, 4100m above sea level.
